Unity College took ISC students of Biology and Biotechnology streams on an educational tour to the Zoological Garden, Lucknow on 5th November, 2022. The tour was a great way for students to observe animals and feel a connection with the wildlife. In the company of Subject teachers Ms. Huma Rizvi and Ms. Eva Abbas, the students saw a variety of animals, birds and plants and were fascinated by the beauty of nature.
The refreshing and exciting visit began from the Giraffe about whom they were briefed that its long neck is an example of Darwin's ‘Survival of the fittest’. Then they saw amazing animals and birds like White Tiger, Deer, Lion-Tailed Macaque, Ostrich, Blue Yellow Macaw, Indian Rat Snake, Crocodile and many more, and learned about their adaptations and behaviour.
Along with zoology, they also took a field lesson in Botany. In the AarogyaVatika, they saw many medicinal plants such as Persian Silk,Silk Cotton tree, etc. and learned about their medicinal properties.
The Fish House was the next venue to observe the various species of fishes such as Goldfish, Silver Dollar, Tiger Barb and many others.
Then they reached the Butterfly Park to explore the beautiful world of butterflies- Common Rose, Lime Butterfly, Common Jay, Tailed Jay, etc. They learned about the pollination by birds and insects. At the water conservation plant, they got a life lesson in conserving our natural resources.
Lastly, they visited the Museum and were entranced to see the ancient coins, instruments, tools, guns, household items, paintings, etc. The most enrapturing sight was that of the 3000 years old Egyptian Mummy.
Overall, it was a day well spent which encompassed the curriculum amidst the real world with wonderful memories.
