HARMONY: RE - UNION MEET 2022@ UNITY

“Nobody is bothered about an institution more than its alumni.”

                                                                                                    -N. R. Narayana Murthy

‘Harmony’: Re-Union Meet 2022 was organised at Unity College on 7th May for the Ex-Students to reminisce their childhood and relive their school life on the annual platform. They stepped in the College Portals with loads of fond memories and gratitude for teachers and the Institution at large. Drifting down memory lane, they shared heart touching memories and their present status as well. This year’s prime agenda was to create a link between them and the present students for the Mentorship Programme ‘Rehnuma’.

At the onset of the Meet, Maryam Zehra (2019 batch) invoked the divine blessings with the beautiful Qirat of Surah Bayyinah from the Quran.

College Principal Mr. Francis Castelino extended a warm welcome to all the guests. He said since Eid is the occasion of getting together with your family, the function just after Eid conveys the same message of togetherness at Unity College-a second home to every student. He saluted the Founder President Late Dr. S. K. Sadiq who started this great mission of providing education to all. He proudly shared that this esteemed College has been a home to 23 batches of children. Now it’s time to exchange their rich experience and help the institution grow forward. He wished them to keep growing and have good luck.

Joint Secretary Dr. M. Talha shared with immense pleasure that now the College has roped in many of its ex-students in the faculty. He said Harmony is not only a club, but a forum with an objective to unite the pass outs with the institution just like a family. The family concerns sustenance of the members, while the institution is for growth. Alumni play a very vital role in the growth of an organisation.

Dr. K. Sibtain Noori - Manager, Unity College II Shift, shared that TMT started with the meagre contribution of Rs. 100/- in 1984 under the selfless leadership and philanthropic vision of Janab, has awarded scholarships to thousands of beneficiaries till date, who are now well settled across the world. It has grown in leaps and bounds in the past years. This year, it has distributed ration to 6000 families in Ramadan, besides regular medical and other aids plus monthly ration to 1500 families. He quoted the words of Janab that now the community needs schools and colleges, not mosques and Imambaras. Let the alumni raise the standard of their knowledge to bring about improvements in the condition of the community.

Teacher Mr. Hasan Mehdi- President of Harmony, shed light on the aims and objectives of the Association to be guides and mentors to their juniors. He exhorted everyone to rope in at least two alumni from each batch to interact with the students and counsel them for a bright future.

Vice Principal Mr. Sachindra briefed the 'Rehnuma' Mentorship Programme.  He said the brain behind this colossal mentorship program is no one, but one of Unity’s own, Mr. Mohd Ahmad, Scientist and Engineer at ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) who is honoured to lead the colossal programme. He has laid down an ingenious Structure and a Road Map for mentorship of the present students by the old students. He appreciated the tremendous efforts put in by College Counsellor Ms. Nisar Fatima Rizvi for the smooth execution of the plan. In fact, she has been rightly called the backbone of the programme since she has maintained contact with the students of the last 20 years. Alumnus and teacher Ms. Fauzia Abbas read the message of Mr. Ahmad regarding the Rehnuma Mentorship Programme.

Ex-Vice Principal Ms. T. Z. Naqvi said to live for oneself is very easy, but life is above it. What you do for others is the only meaningful work done in this world. She recited her poem that she wrote way back in 2005 for the Farewell Party- “Ab Jao Pyare Bachcho, Kaar e Jahan Mubarak….. Manzil Ko Jab Bhi Choomon, Hamko Bhi Yaad Rakhna.” Coincidentally, the lines go true with the Rehnuma Mentorship Program, i.e. the pass outs should share their rich experience with the present students and guide them as well to notch higher positions and pursue bright careers.

Ms. Nisar Fatima presented a mesmerising Gazal, adding melody to the poignant tone of the function.

In the end, followed the ice breaking session when one by one all the alumni came on the dais and introduced themselves. They all offered their warm tribute to Janab and his mission for education. They saluted their teachers for being so dedicated and competent to groom their personalities.

The function of nostalgic memories and aspiring assistance concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Masroor Fatima - Vice President, Harmony. The sumptuous lunch added fervour to the forever cherishable memories.
