LUCKNOW DREAM BIG INITIATIVE: PAVING THE WAY TO TOP COLLEGES

On January 21, 2025, Unity College hosted an insightful meeting under the Educational Counselling and Career Development Lucknow Dream Big Initiative on the theme 'Early Goal Setting: Dream Big.' The session was graced by IAS Officer Mr M ArizAhammed, IFS Officer Mr Ehtisham Kazmi, Secretary Mr Najmul Hasan Rizvi, Jt Secretary Dr M Talha, Principal Mr Deepak Mervyn Mathews, Vice Principal Mr Sachindra Bharti, Headmistress Ms Kainaat Mansoor, Counsellor Ms Nisar Fatima Rizvi, Coordinator Ms Imtiaz Fatima, and Senior Secondary teachers Ms Leena Shukla, Mr Monis Naqvi, Mr Ishan Derick Singh, Ms Ghazala Jafri, and Ms Sarah Abbas.

Mr Ahammed initiated the discussion by explaining the concept of 'early goal setting' and engaged teachers in an interactive exercise where they imagined themselves as 18-year-olds selecting five potential vocations as employers or employees. He emphasised the importance of stream selection in class IX, identifying top colleges in India, understanding their admission processes, and preparing for entrance exams. He also outlined the significance of deciding educational, career, and life goals at different stages. Students should determine their academic streams and research top institutions by class IX. By the end of the first year of undergraduate or degree programmes, they should identify their ultimate career goals.

The discussion also covered the four prerequisites for effective goal setting: self-discovery, knowing opportunities, deciding goals by matching self-discovery with the available opportunities, and staying open-minded. Key elements such as personality development, attitude and time management, simplicity, endurance, and emotional resilience were also highlighted.

Teachers were informed about upcoming online webinars, to be held on alternate Sundays, where students and mentors can interact with accomplished professionals, clarify their doubts, and gain insights into top colleges, admission processes, preparatory content, and related exams. They were also informed about the next online session, which is scheduled for January 26, 2025, from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm and will feature Dr AneesCherkunnath IRS (Customs and Indirect Taxes) as the Chief Guest.

The session concluded with feedback from teachers and a collective commitment by mentors and management to support students in achieving placements in India’s top colleges and universities.
