On January 10, 2025, the teachers of Unity College participated in an enlightening session on Strategic Management in Education, led by a team of experts from Orange Education. The session was facilitated by Ms Rashmi Singh, a dynamic freelancer, along with Mr AnshulNagpal and Mr Amir Husain. This motivational workshop emphasised the importance of strategic thinking in teaching, fostering an environment where educators could reflect on their professional goals and redefine their roles as change makers in the academic landscape. The session was organised by Principal Mr Deepak Mervyn Mathews, and Headmistress Ms Kainaat Mansoor to equip teachers with enhanced methodologies and skills for effective teaching.
It began with an introduction to strategic management in education, focusing on the alignment of teaching practices with long-term goals. Teachers were encouraged to embrace strategic thinking, which involves proactively addressing challenges, innovating curriculum delivery, and adapting to evolving student needs. A highlight of the session was the activity where teachers penned down their personal vision and mission statements in teaching.
An engaging discussion on SMART goals followed, where participants explored how to set specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-based objectives. The session further delved into key strategic management skills essential for modern educators. Leadership, adaptability, time management, collaboration, and problem-solving were highlighted as pivotal competencies. Practical applications, such as curriculum design, resource management, and the integration of digital tools like Google Classroom and Kahoot, were discussed, inspiring teachers to enhance their classroom practices.
Adding an emotional dimension to the workshop, the movie 'The Cart' was screened. The film portrayed the challenges faced by different professional sectors. Ms Singh urged educators to focus on professional growth, embrace change, and cultivate a culture of lifelong learning. Expanding the focus to students, the workshop introduced concepts of strategic management, time management, and career counselling. Teachers explored methods to help students set clear goals, develop essential skills, and create a vision for their future. A motivational video by Dr APJ Abdul Kalam on skill training added depth, inspiring teachers to embrace lifelong learning and self-improvement. A major focus of the session was strategies to deal with Gen Z. Teachers explored techniques to connect with digitally-savvy students, foster engagement, and address their unique learning preferences.
Approaches included incorporating interactive teaching methods, promoting mental well-being, and balancing traditional and tech-based education. Screenshots from various English movies were showcased to highlight different teaching styles. The workshop concluded with a fun dumb charades activity, where participants discussed movies centered around teachers.
The motivational session left the teachers inspired, equipped with strategic tools to shape the future of education at the College.
