MARKING THE BIRTH ANNIVERSARIES OF IMAM HUSSAIN (AS) AND HAZRAT ABBAS (AS)

A special assembly was held on February 3, 2025, at Unity College to commemorate the birth anniversaries of two great leaders of Shia Islam—Imam Hussain (AS) and Hazrat Abbas (AS). The assembly, anchored by Maryam Rizvi (XI-C), was attended by Principal Mr Deepak Mervyn Mathews and Vice Principal Mr Sachindra Bharti and Headmistress Ms Kainaat Mansoor. It commenced with the recitation of holy verses from the Quran by Fatima Raza (XI-C), followed by an explanation of the verses by Dua Zehra (XI-C). The soulful recitation set a reflective tone for the gathering. This was followed by the pledge, which was led by Nashra Fatima (XI-C). Falak Fatima (XI-C) shared an inspiring thought for the day. MaishaIqtidar (XI-C) then presented the news headlines, ensuring that students remained informed about current events. An enlightening speech by Irtiqa Hasan (XI-C) on Hazrat Abbas (AS), prepared under the guidance of Theology teacher Mr Arshad Husain, captivated the audience as it highlighted his esteemed titles and remarkable qualities.

Adding an interactive element to the assembly, a highly informative quiz was conducted by Butool Rizvi (IV-A) and Labiba Khan (V-C) from the Primary Section. The quiz, prepared under the guidance of Primary teachers Ms Sakeena Raza and Ms Eram Shakeel, provided valuable insights into the lives of Imam Hussain (AS) and Hazrat Abbas (AS). Students enthusiastically participated, making the session engaging and educational. Those who answered correctly were rewarded with small cakes from QSchool as a token of appreciation.

Principal Mr Mathews addressed the students, encouraging them not to fall in love with success but rather with the habit of succeeding. He advised them to introspect on the reasons behind their achievements and strive for continuous improvement. He also emphasised the importance of adopting positive thoughts and eliminating negativity, as it can hinder progress.

The assembly served as a meaningful tribute to the virtues of Imam Hussain (AS) and Hazrat Abbas (AS), inspiring students to embody their values of courage, loyalty, and perseverance in their own lives.
