  • Unity Salutes the Galore of Independence on the D day

    Freedom to be … Faith in the words… Pride in our souls … Tolerance in our hearts … With liberal minds … Let’s salute the Nation and sing its glory. Amidst patriotic ardour and enthusiasm, Unity College in cohesion with its co-institutions Unity College-2nd shift, Unity Veda College and Unity Industrial Training Centre gathered in the open ground to celebrate the Independence Day. College President Dr. S. Kalbe Sadiq unfurled the tri-colour, making all present realize that nothing is sweeter than the taste of freedom. It was followed by the National Anthem with proud unison of melodious harmony. Then a number of inspiring speeches, mellifluous songs and allegorical skits, all brimming with nationalism marked the day. The zealous speakers spoke on the significance of Independence and sensitized the audience towards their duties in making a better India. Then the musical tribute of ‘Aye mere vatan’ and ‘Heal the World’ exhorted one and all to awake in the dawn of self realization. Next was the skit that transported them back to the Jallianwala Bagh massacre recalling the reminiscences of British atrocities and the Indian’s sacrifice for the cause. The other mime in its mesmerizing manner brought home the high note of Unity in diversity and that brotherhood and compassion among the countrymen is a pre-requisite for our sovereignty. Unity College 2nd shift too presented a number of items encompassing speeches, songs and skits to commemorate the Nation’s Independence. The action song ‘Sarey Jahan Se Achcha’ stole the show. The captivating presentation with its tri-colour waving fans in different lovely structures rose to a crescendo. Then the mind blowing skit ‘Kya Azaad hai hum’ concluded with the pledge to make India free from the shackles of poverty, illiteracy, corruption, terrorism, communalism and casteism. Mrs. Sabira Taqi, a renowned educationist from UK, extended her warm greetings and applauded the efforts of the entire fraternity. She said that indeed, India is a tolerant country where diversities do not matter. She further emphasized that it is good to sing praises and honour your soldiers, but you should live up to their dreams by being the bearers of great humanity. College President congratulated the young countrymen and exhorted them saying that India got freedom on 15 August, 1947 but with it liberated the wolves in the form of corruption, casteism, etc. too. We can transform our freedom into a complete one only after defeating these anti-social elements. In conclusion, the College Principal Mr. Francis Castelino proposed a vote of thanks. Emphasizing the spirit of the second Quit India Movement, he ignited the students to be selfless in all their dealings and to stand against illiteracy, poverty, racism and intolerance, etc. Indeed, it was a day of joy, love and respect that culminated with a gift of sweets.
