The Red Brigade, Lucknow conducted a self-defence training programme in coordination with Times NIE at Unity College on 7th October 2017. The occasion was very special as their ‘100 Days – 100 Schools – Safe Women – Safe Lucknow Mission’ reached the 50th school. The girl students from classes 9th to 12th attended the workshop. They were very enthusiastic to learn how to confront assaults on their modesty. College Principal Mr. Francis Castelino welcomed the guests. The Chief Guest Ms. Priti M. Shah, a renowned media professional, exhorted the students never to be silent when anything unpleasant happens with them and to be financially self-dependent always. Also present on the occasion were RJ’s Bhawmic and Tripti from Radio Mirchi along with the Red Brigade leader Ms. Usha Vishwakarma and her team. At the onset of the training, Mr. Satyavrat Singh interacted with the students-Why is therea need for self-defence training? In times of need, no outsider, not even the police can help the victim, only she herself can do so. The police and the law are the secondary help in most of the cases. Hence, the first crucial question is how to save oneself from such untoward incidents. He also showed some video clippings presenting their field work and their teachings. Then the brave hearts trained the students in self-defence techniques.Besides live demonstrations, a few volunteer students were given a chance to bout with the cadets and learn defensive as well as offensive moves. Comprehending the significance of such a unique, special training, the students expressed their sincere concern to learn each and every move. They wereeven eager to get a formal training in self-defence. The session culminated on a valiant resolution- “Never to be a victim, nor to see anyone becominga victim.”
