On 23rd August, 2023, students from the Primary Section of Unity College, Lucknow, enthusiastically participated in two distinct competitions, showcasing their oratory skills. The lively event was divided into two segments: students of classes I and II participated in the Recitation Competition, while students of classes III to V took part in the Declamation Competition.

In the Recitation Competition, the young participants displayed remarkable skills as they recited a variety of poems like ‘Sweet Treat Dreams’, ‘Earth Says’, ‘My Parents’, and others with exceptional proficiency, enthralling the audience with their captivating gestures, expressions, and intonations. What stood out were the attractive props they incorporated into their recitations, making their presentations even more engaging. The Recitation Competition was judged by Pre-Primary teachers, Ms. Ashita Joseph Cutting and Ms. Shazia Anjum.

The Declamation Competition witnessed the impressive prowess of students from classes III to V, who delivered speeches inspired by renowned personalities like APJ Abdul Kalam, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Shakira, PreityZinta, Amitabh Bachchanand others. Their performances were characterized by excellent gestures, body language, passion, and eloquence. Judging the competition were Senior English teachers, Ms. Fatima Naseem and Ms. Seema Kazmi. 

The event was graced by the presence of the Principal Mr. Francis Castelino, the Vice Principal Mr. Sachindra Bharti, and the Headmistress Ms. Kainaat Mansoor. The Headmistress praised the hard work of students and teachers, highlighting the refreshing diversity of speeches and their relevant content. Vice Principal Mr. Sachindra Bharti, was rendered speechless and awe-struck by the performances. The Principal lauded the use of props and particularly commended the level of speeches by the students, acknowledging everyone's exceptional performance, which posed a challenge in selecting the best. He also mentioned that the students’ performance was par excellence.

The oratory event was a resounding success, providing students with an opportunity to hone their public speaking skills, build confidence, and express themselves effectively. The event underscored the power of effective communication, highlighting the pivotal role of nonverbal cues along with the magic of words.
