Unity College has actively cultivated an organic garden on its premises, aiming to instill a passion for healthy eating among students. In a progressive move, Ms. Sarah Musavi, a Health Guide from Canada, attended the Green Exhibition organised by the Organic Garden Club on November 27, 2023. The event showcased the dedication of students from classes VII to XII and teachers, including Coordinators Ms. Fizza Mehdi, Ms. Eva Abbas, and Ms. IlaShahid, in coordination with College Counsellor Ms. Nisar Fatima.
Club members enthusiastically spearheaded organic vegetable cultivation and compost production. Ms. Musavi interacted with students, who eloquently explained the steps of preparing organic compost, bioenzyme, micronutrients, and waste decomposers. They also shared information about medicinal, ornamental, and commercial plants, posing their queries to Ms. Musavi, who promptly addressed them. Later, she screened a documentary emphasising the benefits of organic farming and the dangers of GMOs for Organic Garden Club members.
Following this, Ms. Musavi conducted a Wellness Programme for teachers, focusing on advocating for a balanced, organic diet, stress management, and preventive measures for common diseases like diabetes.
Overall, the session proved highly beneficial for both teachers and students, fostering interest in organic gardening and its tremendous benefits.
