KARGIL VIJAY DIWAS: CELEBRATING VALOUR AND SACRIFICE

On July 26, 2024, the Pre-Primary and Primary Sections of the College organised various activities to commemorate Kargil Vijay Diwas, aiming to educate students about the significance of this day and honour the martyrs of the Kargil War.

In the Pre-Primary section, class Prep students paid tribute to the martyrs by engaging in a creative activity where they depicted soldiers using paper tearing and cutting techniques. During this activity, the Indian flag was raised as a symbol of victory. Similarly, class Lower Nursery students participated in an activity where they created a soldier using yellow and green sheets and ice cream sticks, paying heartfelt tribute to the martyrs. Class Upper Nursery students commemorated Kargil Vijay Diwas by making tricolour hangings with paper sheets in saffron, white, and green. These hangings were pasted in their scrapbooks to resemble the Indian flag, emphasising the importance of this day and the sacrifices of the soldiers at the Line of Control (LOC).

Creative writing activities were conducted in classes I to V, allowing students to express their thoughts and imaginations on various topics. Some of the engaging topics included ‘If I Were the President,’ ‘A Letter to God,’ and ‘The Acts of Everyday Heroes,’ sparking creativity and patriotism among the students.

A quiz competition was held for classes IV and V, with four participants from each House. The competition, attended by College Secretary Mr Najmul Hasan Rizvi, Principal Mr Deepak Mathews, Vice Principal Mr Sachindra Bharti, and Headmistress Ms Kainaat Mansoor, consisted of four rounds: General Knowledge, Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), Visual Round, and Rapid Fire. The questions focused on the Kargil War and other Indian historical events. During the rapid-fire round, participants had to answer questions within one minute. The competition was intense, with all teams giving a tough fight. Ultimately, Sir Syed House emerged as the winner, with the following participants:

    •    HiraKashif (IV-B)
    •    Ibrahim Tanveer (IV-A)
    •    Zainab Amina Rizvi (V-B)
    •    S. Saqlain Haider (IV-C)

In the end, an audience round was held where College Secretary Mr Najmul Hasan Rizvi wanted to test the general knowledge of other students as well. This round included questions based on Kargil and other historical events. Winners from the audience included:

    •    Imdad Ali (V-B)
    •    Ayan Abbas (V-B)
    •    Abbas Abidi (V-A)

Mr Najmul Hasan Rizvi emphasised the importance of general knowledge in competitive exams and was highly impressed with the participants’ level of preparation. Principal Mr Deepak Mathews encouraged the students, motivating those who didn’t win and expressing appreciation for all teams and teachers. Headmistress Ms Kainaat Mansoor proposed a vote of thanks and congratulated all the participants.

The activities on Kargil Vijay Diwas were a heartfelt effort to instill patriotism and respect for the sacrifices made by soldiers among students. Through creative projects and engaging competitions, the students learned about the historical significance of the Kargil War, ensuring that the legacy of bravery and sacrifice is remembered and honoured by the younger generation.
