From November 4 to November 6, 2024, Unity College hosted an insightful Pre-Primary Educational Training exclusively for the College’s Pre-Primary teachers. The session was conducted by the esteemed educationist Ms Shamim Abidi from London, under the leadership of Headmistress Ms Kainaat Mansoor. Focused on enhancing the teaching-learning process, the session introduced educators to various innovative techniques designed to make classroom interactions more engaging and impactful for young learners.
Central to the training was an emphasis on activity-based learning. Teachers explored methods to introduce practical activities as a foundation before transitioning students to written tasks. This approach bridges hands-on experiences with formal education, fostering a richer learning environment. Ms Shamim Abidi also guided the teachers through sound modulation techniques for storytelling and team-building exercises, vital tools for making lessons more engaging and accessible. By using these techniques, the teachers learnt how to harness the natural photogenic memory and absorbent minds of young children, thus fostering creativity and critical thinking from an early age.
Additionally, the session provided strategies to create interest-driven learning environments, boosting students’ participation and making the educational experience more dynamic. A segment dedicated to addressing the needs of children with special learning challenges emphasised problem-solving with empathy, patience, and positivity, encouraging teachers to cultivate an inclusive classroom. The training also introduced practical exercises aimed at improving vocabulary, conversational skills, and mental health, integrating these elements into the curriculum for a well-rounded approach to Pre-Primary education.
An innovative part of the training included 'Yoga Stories,' which combined simple yoga techniques to support the mental and physical well-being of students.
Overall, the training by Ms Shamim Abidi was a transformative experience for the College’s Pre-Primary teachers, equipping them with innovative tools to inspire, engage, and support young learners. The insights gained promise to transform classrooms into vibrant spaces where each child’s potential can truly flourish.
