Unity College celebrated its Annual Sports Day on November 30, 2024 with great enthusiasm, transforming the campus into a hub of athleticism and camaraderie. The event was graced by Chief Guest Major General Shabih Haider Naqvi, General Staff, and Guest of Honour Dr Syed RafatZubair Rizvi, an International Taekwondo Player and Coach, alongside College Secretary Mr Najmul Hasan Rizvi, Principal Mr Deepak Mervyn Mathews, Vice Principal Mr Sachindra Bharti, Headmistress Ms Kainaat Mansoor and other esteemed members of the Managing Committee.
In his welcome address, Principal Mr Mathews highlighted the College’s commitment to holistic excellence.
The day commenced with a multi-faith prayer and the release of colourful balloons by Major General Naqvi, symbolising students' aspirations. A torch run, led by national-level sports stars Mohd Ayan, Qaim Abbas Zaidi, Husain Mehdi, and Arham Haider, showcased the spirit of sportsmanship, followed by an impressive march past by the NCC Battalion and student contingents, accompanied by the rhythmic beats of the College Band.
A series of energetic drills captivated the audience. Highlights included ‘Unbeatables’, a tribute to the Armed Forces by the Tiny Tots; ‘Dreams’ by Classes I and II, inspiring determination; ‘Chale Chalo’, a tambourine drill by Classes III and IV, showcasing athletic camaraderie; and ‘Olympics’, a hula hoop performance by Class V honouring India’s 2024 Paris Olympics heroes. The girls of Classes VI to VIII mesmerised the crowd with a peace-themed performance promoting global harmony.
The day also featured Inter-House track and field competitions, including relays, sprints, shot put, and discus throw, highlighting exceptional talent. A spirited tug-of-war and a breathtaking gymnastics display by Classes IX and XI, featuring daring stunts and fire jumps, left the audience in awe.
Chief Guest Major General Naqvi commended the young participants for delivering a remarkable performance, highlighting how such events nurture discipline and character. He praised the participants' dedication, emphasising that their rigorous efforts make each one a winner, regardless of outcomes.
College Secretary Mr Rizvi delivered a vote of thanks, applauding the efforts of students, teachers, and organisers.
The event concluded with the National Anthem, epitomising the College’s dedication to fostering sportsmanship and holistic development.
