A JOYFUL TAPESTRY OF FUN, INSPIRATION, AND TOGETHERNESS AT UNITY

Children’s Day was celebrated with joy and excitement at Unity College on November 14, 2024. The festivities began with a vibrant Morning Assembly put together by the teachers to make the students feel cherished and appreciated. The event was graced by Principal Mr Deepak Mervyn Mathews, Vice Principal Mr Sachindra Bharti, and Headmistress Ms Kainaat Mansoor. The anchor for the day, Ms Fatima Naseem invited Mr Arshad Husain to open the assembly with the recitation of divine verses, setting a serene tone for the celebration. Following this, Ms Sarah Abbas delivered an inspiring speech, encouraging students to become compassionate individuals and to use their energy towards positive pursuits.

The atmosphere quickly shifted to one of laughter and excitement with a series of engaging games for the Pre-Primary and Primary sections, orchestrated by Ms Eram Shakeel. In the first game, 'Dumb Charades', teachers entertained the students by silently acting out beloved cartoon characters. Next was the 'Game of Unity', where a teacher-student duo had to pass and throw a ball into a basket, a challenge that saw Ms Sahifa Rizvi and Mahi Ali (IV-B) emerge as champions. The 'Game of Strength', which required teams to blow up balloons together, was won by Ms Sadaf Khan and Zainab Zehra (I-C). For the Senior Secondary students, a lively 'In/Out' game kept them on their toes, requiring quick reactions to instructions to jump in or out.

In keeping with the day’s spirit of fun learning, a quiz tested the Secondary and Senior Secondary students’ knowledge of popular advertisement taglines and iconic movie dialogues. The excitement continued as Ms Nisar Fatima Rizvi delighted everyone with the nostalgic children’s song 'Lakdi Ki Kaathi', while Mr Jai Banerjee’s song 'Papa Kehte Hain' brought back cherished memories. The highlight of the morning was a spirited song mashup performed by teachers Ms Fizza Mehdi, Ms Fauzia Abbas, Ms Arshia Tabassum, Ms Seema Kazmi, Ms Fatima Naseem, Ms AshabBaqar, Ms Sana Baqar, and Ms Narjis Fatima, with the students enthusiastically clapping along.

Vice Principal Mr Bharti kept everyone informed with a special news segment, sharing key updates from India, the city of Lucknow, and remarkable achievements by Unitians in recent Inter-School events. He ended his segment with a touching excerpt from Robert Frost and a heartfelt Urdu shayari.

Principal Mr Mathews then shared an inspirational story from the Bible, emphasising that the purity and innocence of children reflect the kingdom of God. He congratulated the teachers for their hard work in creating such a memorable programme and wished the students well.

The Morning Assembly concluded with the National Anthem, but the celebrations continued with an exhilarating staff vs students Basketball Match, marking the day with camaraderie and sportsmanship. The day wrapped up with the distribution of sweets to the students, spreading smiles, laughter, and creating unforgettable memories, leaving everyone with a sense of joy and unity that will be cherished for a long time.
