FOUNDER'S MEMORIAL DAY: HONOURING HIS LEGACY AT UNITY COLLEGE

On November 24, 2024, Unity College celebrated the Founder's Memorial Day in commemoration of its esteemed Founder, Padma Bhushan (Late) Dr S Kalbe Sadiq, on his 4th death anniversary. Known as a visionary, social reformer, modern educationist, and ‘Messiah of the Downtrodden’, Dr Sadiq’s legacy was remembered with heartfelt reverence.

 

The event was graced by a distinguished gathering of eminent personalities, including Janab Syed Waseem Akhtar, Chancellor, Integral University; Mr Shafiq Malik from Indian Revenue Services; Mr Moid, Ex-Minister UP; Mr Najmul Hasan Rizvi, College Secretary; Dr M Talha, Jt Secretary; Mr Deepak Mervyn Mathews, Principal; Mr Sachindra Bharti, Vice Principal; Ms Kainaat Mansoor, Headmistress; Dr S Kalbe Sibtain Noorie, Manager II Shift; and Ms Shabana Ahmed, Principal II Shift.

 

The ceremony began on a spiritual note, with divine recitations from the Holy Qur'an by Syed Mujtaba Alam Rizvi (X-B), the Srimad Bhagavad Gita by Nashra Fatima (XI-C), and the Holy Bible by Fatima Raza (XI-C). A heartfelt message from former Principal Mr Francis Castelino was eloquently delivered by Basilah Husain (XI-A). In his message, Mr Castelino expressed profound gratitude and admiration for Dr Sadiq, acknowledging the trust and opportunity bestowed upon him during his tenure. Principal Mr Mathews then delivered a warm welcome address, expressing gratitude to the dignitaries and guests for their presence.

 

A vibrant performance of an action song by the Montessori students of II Shift, propagated Janab’s noble mission of education for the upliftment of the underprivileged. A heartfelt skit by students from VII to XII portrayed his journey as an institution builder, emphasising his relentless efforts to provide quality education to all, particularly the underprivileged. II Shift students performed a skit showcasing successful beneficiaries' stories, emphasising the programme's impact on education and empowerment.

 

In another equally impactful skit, the Primary students depicted the inspiring efforts of Janab, who took a firm stand against child labour. The narrative followed his unwavering commitment to ensuring underprivileged children had access to education, empowering them with knowledge and paving the way for a brighter future.

 

The event reached its emotional peak with a poignant Nazm composed by Office Superintendent Mr Shahid Hussain, recited by Falak Fatima (XI-C), which resonated deeply with the audience and encapsulated the essence of Dr Sadiq’s vision.

 

The various guests delivered speeches that enlightened the audience. Janab Syed Waseem Akhtar enriched the gathering with a poignant shayari, beautifully capturing the essence of Janab's remarkable personality and noble mission. He praised his unwavering commitment to unifying communities and driving societal reform through education.

 

Mr Shafiq Malik highlighted that Dr Kalbe Sadiq emerged as a true blessing during a time when societal disunity was at its peak. He emphasised that such a visionary leader's tireless efforts must not go in vain.

 

Mr Moid fondly recounted a few memorable meetings he had with Janab, describing them as truly pleasant experiences. He praised Janab's unwavering punctuality and his warm, friendly demeanour, which left a lasting impression.

 

Secretary Mr Rizvi proposed the vote of thanks. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to all the dignitaries, teachers, and students for their tireless efforts in making the event a grand success. He remarked that Janab would forever live in our hearts, his legacy shining brightly through every endeavour. Each performance—on stage, in classrooms, or on the sports fields—reflects not only the dedication of those involved but also their profound love and respect for the Founder. Concluding his speech with a powerful message, he said, "If we wish to keep Dr Kalbe Sadiq alive, then each of us must aspire to become a Kalbe Sadiq."

 

The event concluded on a patriotic note with the National Anthem.After the event, guests were taken through the remarkable journey and enduring legacy of Janab via a beautifully presented video by the College Photography Club,showcasing the numerous works of Janab.

 

Later, they also visited the garden to see an exhibition by the Organic Club.Students showcased organic plants, demonstrated making organic fertilisers, and discussed the differences between GMOs, commercial products and natural, organic options. The interaction highlighted sustainable practices and the importance of eco-friendly living.

 

The event not only paid homage to Janab’s extraordinary contributions but also inspired all present to uphold his values of compassion, equality, and excellence in education.
