A LIFE OF SERVICE AND JUSTICE: UNITY REMEMBERS VICE PRESIDENT JUSTICE (RETD) SYED HAIDER ABBAS RAZA

The Unity College fraternity mourns the profound loss of its Vice College President, Justice Syed Haider Abbas Raza (Retd), whose untimely demise on December 7, 2024, came as a bolt from the blue. A luminary of law, politics, and community service, Justice Raza’s life exemplified unwavering commitment, dignity, and compassion.

Hailing from the revered lineage of Kichauchha Sharif, the seat of the esteemed Chishti Sufi saint Makhdoom Syed Ashraf Jahangir Semnani, Justice Raza embodied values of spirituality and justice. His illustrious career included serving as a distinguished Judge at the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court and becoming the first Lokayukta of Uttarakhand. Justice Raza was renowned for landmark judgements that preserved the socio-cultural fabric of society, such as safeguarding the historical integrity of JhandeWala Park and prohibiting political rallies at Begum Hazrat Mahal Park.

Justice Raza’s association with Unity College was profound and enduring. As a long-standing member of the Tauheedul Muslimeen Trust and its Managing Committee, he ascended to the reverend position of Vice President of the College. His leadership and wisdom were the backbone of the institution, providing steadfast support to staff and students alike. His presence at College events was a constant source of inspiration, and his administrative acumen ensured that the institution flourished under his guidance.
