On January 6, 2024, Unity College hosted a Wellness Programme exclusively for its teaching staff, featuring esteemed speakers from the fields of health and wellness. The session was inaugurated by Dr Sarah Musavi, a renowned health guide from Canada, who had launched the wellness programme and the organic farming project in 2021. She commended the college for its pioneering initiatives, particularly the active involvement of students in organic farming under the guidance of Mr Nasir, an organic farmer.
Dr Musavi introduced the keynote speakers, Dr Nilesh Nigam and Dr Mayuri Nigam from Navyam Ayurveda, Lucknow, whose expertise significantly enriched the event. The attendees included Secretary Mr Najmul Hasan Rizvi, Principal Mr Deepak Mervyn Mathews, Vice Principal Mr Sachindra Bharti and Headmistress Ms Kainaat Mansoor.
Dr Nilesh Nigam, a seasoned Ayurvedic practitioner with over 18 years of experience with a record of treating more than 100,000 patients, delivered an engaging talk emphasising wellness over illness. He highlighted Ayurveda's primary goal of maintaining health through a balanced diet and lifestyle. Explaining the three Doshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha—he shared practical tips for healthy living, stressing the importance of nurturing a healthy mind, body, and spirit.
Dr Mayuri Nigam, a renowned women’s health expert, delivered an insightful talk on the vital role of women in family health and well-being. She dispelled menstruation myths, highlighted the value of scientifically-backed traditional practices, and urged lady teachers to prioritise their health and maintain a balanced diet. Emphasising the risks of neglecting personal well-being, she inspired attendees to adopt healthier lifestyles for their long-term physical and mental health.
In his vote of thanks, Mr Rizvi praised Ayurveda as a comprehensive guide to the Art of Living. He encouraged attendees to propagate these insights within their homes and communities, fostering a natural and balanced lifestyle while nurturing the environment and society.
The session left the audience inspired to adopt Ayurvedic principles, ensuring a harmonious blend of health, nature, and well-being.
