Unity College was abuzz with excitement on February 1, 2025 as it hosted the prestigious Scholar Dr Kalbe Sadiq Memorial Football Match. The match, played between Unity Present and Unity Past, served as a heartfelt tribute to the revered Founder President, Padma Bhushan Late Dr S Kalbe Sadiq Sahab.
The event saw enthusiastic alumni return to their alma mater to relive their cherished memories on the football field, competing against the spirited players of the College. The Present team comprised Arham Haider Rizvi (XI-B), Ali Jafar (XI-B), Amaan Agha (XI-B), Abu Sufiyan (XI-A), Qaim Abbas Zaidi (XI-A), Mohd Amaan (VII-C), Mohd Raza (VII-C), Farhan (VIII-A), Ali Nadeem (XI-D), Waqar Hussain (XI-A), Avan Mirza (XI-D), HashamMehndi (X-B), Zainul Imam (X-A), Hasan Rizvi (X-A), Mohd Ayan (XII-B), and Ameen (IX-A). Meanwhile, the Unity Past team featured Zafar Husain, Talib, Adeeb, Mohd Laraib, Rahbar, Mohd Zaid, Qamber, Mohd Ali, Sadiq Mahdi, NazimAdil, Mohd Ali Abbas, and Ilham.
The match commenced with an inspiring introduction of both teams to Secretary Mr Najmul Hasan Rizvi. Also present were Principal Mr Deepak Mathews and Vice Principal Mr Sachindra Bharti. The field was charged with enthusiasm as the teams, comprising players who had previously brought laurels to the College, prepared for an intense contest. Spectators, including students and teachers, further enhanced the electrifying atmosphere with their passionate cheers, making the match even more captivating.
Both teams displayed exceptional skill and determination, resulting in a closely contested battle. Despite the Unity Present team being younger and comparatively smaller in build, they put up a remarkable fight, challenging their senior counterparts at every turn. The match remained goalless throughout the two 70-minute innings, reflecting the intense level of competition. As a result, extra time of two minutes was allotted. In a dramatic turn of events, NazimAdil of Unity Past scored the winning goal in the first minute, securing victory for his team by 1-0.
The match concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, where Secretary Mr Rizvi felicitated the players for their outstanding performance amidst resounding applause and cheers. He also commended the meticulous planning and dedicated efforts of PTI Mr Aamir Ali and Office Superintendent Mr Shahid Husain.
