Unity College organised a Special Assembly on February 17, 2025, to celebrate National Science Day in advance, owing to the forthcoming annual examinations. National Science Day, officially observed on February 28, commemorates the discovery of the Raman Effect by Sir C V Raman in 1928. The day is dedicated to promoting scientific research, fostering innovation, and honouring the contributions of Indian scientists while inspiring young minds to explore the wonders of science.
The event was graced by the presence of Principal Mr Deepak Mervyn Mathews and Vice Principal Mr Sachindra Bharti. The programme was meticulously organised by the Science Department, under the guidance of Ms Leena Shukla, Ms Huma Rizvi, Ms Fauzia Abbas, Ms Fizza Mehdi, Ms AshabBaqar, and Ms Sahifa Rizvi.
The assembly commenced with a soulful recitation of Quranic verses by Fatima Ahmad (XI-B), followed by the Pledge of duty and loyalty led by Tasveer Fatima (XI-B), setting a fervent and enthusiastic tone for the gathering. Tuba Ahmad (XI-C) delivered a compelling speech emphasising the role of Science in building public trust and personal connectivity, with a special reference to its instrumental role during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Senior students showcased a series of captivating scientific experiments, leaving the audience in awe. The demonstrations included:

Pressure Difference – Ahmad Yasir (XI-C)
Electroplating – Tasveer Fatima (XI-B)
Newton’s Spectrum – Falak Fatima (XI-C)
Baking Soda and Vinegar Balloon – Mohd Farhan (XI-C)
Elephant Toothpaste – MaishaIqtidar (XI-C) and Ahmad Yasir (XI-C)
Adding to the excitement, an engaging class-wise Science Quiz for students of classes I to IX and XI stirred enthusiasm throughout the audience. The Quiz was efficiently conducted by Labiba Zehra (V-C) and Butool Rizvi (IV-A), with each correct response being rewarded with a chocolate, making the experience both educational and enjoyable.
The assembly concluded on a melodious note with Falak Fatima (XI-C) delivering an uplifting rendition of the song ‘Ek Diya Baati, HazaronRoshni’, which resonated with the audience.
Addressing the gathering, Principal Mr Mathews commended the Science Department for orchestrating an informative and engaging event. He highlighted the significance of curiosity in driving scientific breakthroughs and highlighted that while Science is a boon to humanity, it should never render individuals overly dependent, particularly in the realm of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics. He encouraged students to pursue scientific advancements with confidence and inquisitiveness.
The event proved to be a resounding success, igniting a passion for Science among students and reinforcing the importance of scientific exploration in everyday life.
