Unity Organic Farm House, located near Charak Hospital, Lucknow, witnessed an inspiring visit from Mr SurendraBhagat, Principal Scientist at Dabur Research and Development Centre, Ghaziabad, along with his team on February 11, 2025. The visit aimed to bolster the College’s commitment to environmental sustainability and encourage students to actively participate in the green initiative.
Accompanied by students from Unity College II Shift and Counsellor Ms Nisar Fatima Rizvi, Mr Bhagat explored the organic farm, gaining insights into sustainable agricultural practices. Mr Nasir, an expert organic farmer, elaborated on the cultivation techniques of brinjal, radish, bottle gourd, and lady’s finger, highlighting the significance of budding, male and female flower differentiation, and natural composting.
Following the farm visit, an interactive session was held at Unity College, where Mr Bhagat engaged with members of the Organic Club, sharing valuable insights on organic farming and environmental conservation. He emphasised the crucial role of afforestation in controlling ozone depletion, stating that increased plantation not only mitigates harmful gases but also enhances oxygen levels in the environment. He also suggested establishing a herbal garden within the college premises and shed light on the bioaccumulation of insecticides used in agricultural fields, highlighting their detrimental effects on the environment. His thought-provoking discourse reinforced the necessity of responsible ecological stewardship.
The event was graced by the presence of Secretary Mr Najmul Hasan Rizvi, Principal Mr Deepak Mervyn Mathews, Vice Principal Mr Sachindra Bharti, Counsellor Ms Nisar Fatima Rizvi, Organic Club In-Charge Ms Fizza Mehdi, and Office Superintendent Mr Shahid Husain.
Mr Rizvi, in his closing remarks, exhorted the students to plant more and more trees, ensuring a greener, healthier future for generations to come.
