Unity College observed DaanUtsav on October 8, 2025, fostering the spirit of giving and social responsibility among students of the Pre-Primary and Primary Sections. The initiative reflects the College’s tradition of placing humanity before oneself and encourages young learners to understand the value of generosity and empathy.
As part of DaanUtsav, also known as the Joy of Giving Week, Goonj—an NGO dedicated to improving rural livelihoods—observes this initiative nationwide from October 2 to 8. The organisation channels urban surplus to remote communities, providing essential support for daily needs and education, and inspires people to contribute to the welfare of society, nurturing a culture of compassion and social responsibility.
At Unity College, all sections actively participated. The Lower Nursery contributed pulses to support daily meals, while the Upper Nursery donated rice and salt. The Prep Class added tea leaves and sugar to bring warmth and comfort, Class 1 offered a variety of spices including turmeric, red chilli, and coriander powder, and Class 2 focused on hygiene and nutrition by donating soap, toothpaste, biscuits, and sugar.
Ms Priya Shukla, team member of Goonj, appreciated the students’ efforts and explained that the donations would be distributed to underprivileged communities in remote areas.
Principal, Mr Deepak Mervyn Mathews, commended the students for their generosity, emphasising that true education extends beyond academics to include empathy, compassion, and social responsibility.
The observance highlighted the values of sharing and kindness. Unity College looks forward to continuing such initiatives, with further contributions planned during Founder’s Memorial Week. The event concluded on an inspiring note, motivating students and staff to make giving a part of everyday life.
