Unity College held its Annual Urdu Literary Programme 'Guldasta- e -Sukhan' on 28th July, 2022 with an aim to create awareness and appreciation for Urdu among young learners and to celebrate the multifaceted nature of Urdu - its beauty and versatility. College Principal Mr. Francis Castelino welcomed the guests with warm greetings. He abreasted them with the excellent Board result of 2022 that is almost touching the zenith: ICSE- 98.40% and ISC- 95.50%. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Dr. Sabiha Anwar – Retd. Principal, Karamat Degree College, Lucknow. Also present were Prof. Qamar Jahan-Ex HOD (Hindi), BHU, Ms. Tabassum Kidwai - Ex Principal, Talim Gahe Niswan College and Managing Committee Members-Prof. Anis Ashfaq, Prof. Sabira Habib and Dr. Kalbe Sibtain Noori. Dr. Sabiha Anwar was all praise for the meticulous performances. She said the actual appreciation is for the committed teachers who had trained the children so well. Dr. Ashfaq complemented the program as flawless, excellent and incredible. Secretary Dr. M. Talha quoted Mr. Bahuguna - former Chief Minister of UP, “The language that children speak will never die.” Moving on with the same thought, he exhorted the mothers to keep Urdu alive by communicating with their kids. The Cultural Event presented a lovely bouquet of Drama, Ghazal, Nazm and Qawwali. The eye-feasting performance commenced with the soulful Tilawat-e-Quran. The first item in the literary string was the mind-blowing drama Shajar-e-Ulfat put up by the Secondary Section. The meticulous cast was at par with the contemporary conflict due to the generation gap and deteriorating family values. Next was the grand spectrum of Indian Culture: 'Unity in Diversity' and 'Brotherhood among Citizens’. Pre-Primary & Primary students presented the mesmerizing action song 'Sab Hind ke Wasi Hai' that impressed a wave of affinity and appreciation in the audience. Last but not the least was the melodious Qawwali on the lines of the enlightening poetry 'Shikwa Jawab-e-Shikwa' by Allama Iqbal. It amazingly portrayed unity, equity and brotherhood in Islam regardless of social status, sect or community. The jaw dropping performance of the Secondary and Senior Secondary sections rocked the stage, leaving the audience thrilled. The engaging fillers, the Ghazals by Mirza Ghalib and Khumar Barabankvi, too enthralled the audience. They enjoyed the cultural feast all through, with never a dull moment. The curtain was drawn with the vote of thanks by Secretary Mr. Najmul Hasan Rizvi. He advised the students that they should love and learn other languages too but always preserve their own language. It is the very key to the invaluable literary treasure of the Country.
